Kakabadze's (1889-1952) work has captivated viewers for decades. His works are
well-known both in Georgia and internationally. His painting was not only a
source of aesthetic pleasure, but also a means of learning about the world. He
was an experimental, art researcher, and theorist who was a pivotal player in
Georgian modernism. Davit Kakabadze painted several self-portraits, one of
which, "Self-portrait Near the Curtain," inspired the design of the
lovely "Babale" fabric.
